Elly Sienkiewicz Washington, D.C.

For several decades now, Elly Sienkiewicz has been designing, stitching, writing and teaching on quilts. Author of 19 appliqué books, Elly received the Quilt Industry’s 2003 Silver Star Award for significant influence on the contemporary quiltworld. Elly’s Appliqué 12 Easy Ways! won the Quilt Industry Classics Award for Best Book on appliqué. C&T Publishing sponsored two major Baltimore Album Revival Exhibitions to celebrate her books’ impact on the decades-long Baltimore Album and Appliqué Revival. Before becoming so deeply involved with group-made Albums, Elly’s individual work hung at shows across the country and at Museums and Galleries in and around Washington, DC, her home town. Inspiring as both a teacher and speaker, she has lectured for the Smithsonian Institution, across the country, and on five continents. Karen Kay Buckley Carlisle, PA


Karen began quilting in 1983, and in April of 1986 won her first quilting award in a J.C.Penney quilt block contest. Karen’s block was joined with fifteen others and exhibited at the Great American Quilt Show in New York City. In the fall of 1986 Karen opened her own quilt shop, The Country Quilt Shop in Philadelphia, and it was a huge success. Karen entered her first major quilt competition in 1991. The “Dragon” quilt received many awards and was the start of Karen winning many local and national awards including seven Best of Show awards. She has published four books: “From Basics To Binding: A Complete Guide To Making Quilts”, “Above & Beyond Basics”, “Love to Quilt...Bears, Bears, Bears”, and “Applique Basics: Flower Wreaths”. Karen has had thirteen quilts appear on the cover of major magazines. She is very passionate about what she does, loves designing her quilts and sharing tips and tricks with all her students. Bonnie McCaffery Hawley, PA


Bonnie McCaffery has been quilting for over twenty years.Her quilts have been exhibited across the country. In 1994 she had her first solo exhibit of her quilts at the Gingerbread Gallery. She was chosen as the recipient of the Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship Award in 1998 and traveled to Europe to attend European Quilt Market and International Quilt Expo in Austria. Since then she has returned to Europe to teach in England, Scotland, Ireland, and France. And she had another trip to Denmark, & Sweden in March/April 2002Bonnie’s quilts have been seen in such publications as American Quilters Society Magazine, Quilting International, Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine and Craftworks. She has appeared twice on Simply Quilts - once with Fantasy Fabric and once with the Portrait Quilts. Bonnie specializes in kaleidoscope quilts, free form applique quilts, dimensional quilts, layered quilts, Fantasy Fabric, Fantasy Floral quilts and her newest venture - Painted Faces. She loves visiting with guilds everywhere and sharing her quilts and inspiration. Her goals are to travel, teach, and create visually pleasing fabric wall quilts that work well in homes and offices. Christine Porter Bristol, England


Christine teaches and lectures throughout Britain and the US where she is also a quilt show judge and she has won awards for her quilts in both locales. She has been the co-editor of Patchwork & Quilting magazine, which is Britain’s first and leading quilting magazine. In this role, she wrote many articles and did the book and new product reviews. Christine was the founder of the Cabot Quilting Conferences held throughout the UK who brought top American and other international quilters to the UK, enabling British quilters to learn from some of the best in the world. Her first book Quilt Designs from Decorative Floor Tiles, was released in 2003 followed by her second book, Tessellation Quilts in May 2006. Her quilts have been featured in books by Joen Wolfrom and she also designs patterns for Joen’s company, JWD Publishing. Christine has also been a guest on Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson and has recently made two DVDs, Let’s Get Started and From Fabric to Quilt – an Inspirational Journey. Velda Newman Nevada City, CA


Velda Newman is an internationally recognized contemporary quilt artist, author and lecturer from Northern California known for her large scale, mostly organic designs. Velda creates original quilts of exceptional beauty and craftsmanship. For the past 18 years Velda's work has appeared in many national and international exhibitions and has been featured in over 30 publications, including Quilter's Newsletter and Threads magazine.
