Learning Epp-Tumbling Blocks Karen Combs

Epp-Tumbling BlocksIt's old, but its brand new! Hexies and English Paper Piecing are all the rage! Why, because this technique is easy, fast, accurate and best of all, portable, perfect for sitting, stitching and watching the water sail by during our cruise. Join Karen, as she shows you this popular technique while creating an amazing 3-D quilt. Frankly, Karen avoided this kind of piecing for years...until she tried it. Now she's hooked and it is her "go-to" take along pro-ject. Don't worry if you've never tried it before, we will start at the beginning and learn all the tricks and tips need. CAUTION: You may become addicted!

Sixty-Thirty Paula Nadelstern

Sixty ThirtyTRUST ME: This class is not about math and it is not only for people who enjoy being fastidious. It is both a product and process class that is extremely satisfying and simple, concluding in the creation of a unique and fabulous kaleidoscope block. Although the block looks complex, it is made from only 2 different fab-rics. In this class, you will learn about symmetrical fabrics and explore the possibilities offered by complex textiles. You will learn a very simple, intuitive, no-MATH technique to draft pretty perfect angles. Often effects more wonderful than you imagine occur, making you both the one who makes the magic and the one who is surprised.

Sewing machines will be provided for this class.
Skill level: Advanced beginner.

Snippets Sensations Cindy Walter

Snippet SensationsLearn Cindy's fast, raw edge fusible Snippet Sensations© technique while working on your own individual design. Pictorial quilts seem difficult, but not with this fun, pattern-free technique. This class is full of de-sign tips. Snippets is a great way to use your fabric scraps. You might even consider creating a memorabilia scene from the cruise!

Over and Under Rainbows Gyleen X. Fitzgerald

Over and Under RainbowsModern with a twist! "KNOT" as hard as you think! It's visually dynamic with fast easy piecing. Don't let cutting "Tie" you up. All you need is one 2.5" strip set and 3.5 yards of background. This workshop project is a 70" x 70" lap quilt, however doing less makes a wonderful table or bed runner. Project looks modern with solid or semi-solid or batik fabric. Select a background fabric that doesn't compete with your strips. If you have a collection of self-made 2½ strips you go for scrappy. I used my light 2½ strips for a scrappy background. Don't over think it. Come to have fun!

On the first day, we will start by learning some of the secrets of using color and fabric selection to enhance illusions. Next, we will create intriguing 3-D cubes by drawing in perspective. (You say you can't draw? No problem, if you can draw a wiggly straight line, you can draw in perspective!) Karen will show different design options for your 3-D cubes and we will cut out your drawing. On the second day of class, let's head to the sewing machines! Karen will show you all the tricks and tips for sewing your 3-D cube. (Don't worry, they are really quite easy to sew. Karen has some fantastic tricks that make it oh-so easy!)

Sunstars Paula Nadelstern

SunstarsI PROMISE: This class is not about Math. If you can sew a straight line on a sewing machine, you can take and enjoy this class. I don't sew very well (really). Every step will be explained. The two-day format allows for a sensible pace to integrate the information. Day 1 is a no-sewing-machine-day. You will learn all of the unique machine piecing and template techniques I use to create kaleidoscopic images while simultaneously exploring the virtues of bilaterally symmetrical fabric. You'll learn to draft perfect angles and to identify and join different angles together. This product and process class culminates in the crea-tion of a unique and fabulous kaleidoscope block. Often effects more wonderful than you imagine occur, making you both the one who makes the magic and the one who is surprised.

Sewing machines will be provided on the second day of class.

Advanced beginner.

How to Quilt It Cindy Walter

How to Quilt ItLearn to quilt your tops in a variety of ways. Which style of quilting best suits your quilt top? Quilt it by machine or hand? How much time do you have, what suits your skill level? Which tools and batting will help with the differnent styles of quilting? Hands on practice during class will help you build new skills and your confidence. This class is loaded with tips! Class is geared for all skill levels, but if there is a technique in the two days you've already mastered and don't want a brush up, feel free to work on your own project, or just relax and "talk story" as they say in Hawaii.

Sewing machines will be provided on the first day of class.

Going in Circles Gyleen X. Fitzgerald

Going in CirclesVery similar to the Drunkard's Path with an extra curve or two. Learn the raw edge technique to achieve perfect "stress-free" curves without piecing. Experiment with different layouts to produce a unique design. Wall hanging (25" x 25") uses 16 fabrics from 4 color groups. Gyleen's thoughts: Bring extra fabric for "oops." This design can easily be made larger by making more blocks. There are quite a few design options so don't be surprised if you make more than one! Day 2 of this workshop will be learning 3 different hand stitches to embellish your quilt top. Or bring along another small project to experiment on! It sure to be a fun and relaxing day!

Round Robin Sampler: No need to sign up in advance.

Class notes: Holding a quilt seminar on a cruise ship is a unique experience. Sometimes there are space and time challenges that prevent our being able to be "project oriented" and we must concentrate more on process. It is very unlikely that you will have an absolutely finished project at the end of a class. It is helpful if your expectations match these realities. But regardless of how far you are able to progress, our instructors are professionals—some of the best in the quilting world—and we know you will learn many new techniques and have a wonderful experience!
