Inidigo Dye – As Blue As the Island Skies

Thursday, October 17, 2013  • 8:30 am - 11:30 am

One of the oldest dyes used for coloring dating back 5,000 years and still used today to color blue jeans. It is made through a process of fermenting the leaves of the indigo plant. Once the Indio is reduced to a liquid consistency it becomes yellowish green. The blue color appears as the dye is exposed to oxygen. Class will take the secret out of using this remarkable dye while teaching a few Shibori wrapping techniques. There will be a lot of extra dye, so you are welcome to bring any extra pieces of clothing or fabric you want to dye Indigo Blue. After a very fun morning, you'll be looking for extra things to dye...hotel towels are off limits! Cindy will provide dye, dye vats and tools; your easy supply list will just be fabric!

Abstract Fabric Painting

Thursday, October 17, 2013  • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This project will use thick, opaque paints. You do not have to be an artist to be successful with opaque paints; it is often as easy as painting-by-number. These paints are also used for stamping and painting a simple picture. You will start your own abstract painted quilt in class-looks complicated and you will impress your friends-so don't tell them it is easy and you don't have to have a drop of creativity to be successful. You'll also paint a miniature quilt. Small kit fee will include almost everything you need to make the supply list easy. This is one of the projects from Cindy's newest book, Fabric Painting with Cindy Walter (C&T Publishing).
